| Unable to Save Configuration File Settings |
The resolution to this issue depends on the version of FileBack PC you are
running.
FileBack PC Releases, September 2008 or Newer
This error is usually an indication that the user account running FileBack PC
does not have rights to modify the global FileBack PC configuration files.
The easiest solution to this issue is to switch FileBack PC to Per-User
Configuration Mode.
Under the File menu, select Preferences. Select the Advanced tab page,
and turn on the 'Run FileBack PC in Per-User configuration mode' option.
FileBack PC Releases Prior to September 2008
When FileBack PC is set to run under a regular (non-administrative) user account, or is running on Windows Vista with User Account Control turned on, saving the configuration may fail under certain circumstances.
When FileBack PC saves its configuration file, it is saved with the permissions granted to the current user account ("Account A"). If FileBack PC is then loaded under another user account ("Account "B") that does not have permissions to modify the configuration file, saving the configuration file will fail.
The best solution to this problem is to modify the permissions of the folder containing the configuration file so all users can write and delete files:
- Locate the folder containing your configuration file. See this article for information on locating this folder,
or use the File / Open Configuration Folder option if it exists.
- Open the configuration folder in Windows Explorer.
- Right-click the blank space in the file listing pane and select Properties.
- Go to the Security tab of the Properties window. If you are running Windows Vista, click Edit.
- Locate and click on the Users (or COMPUTERNAME\Users) entry.
- In the Permissions for Users box, turn on Modify under Allow.
- Click OK as necessary to save changes.
Making the above changes should allow any user account on the computer to open and save the configuration file as needed.
