Advanced diagnostic mode of FileBack PC

In cases where FileBack PC closes abnormally a diagnostic mode can be enabled to help determine the cause of the problem.  Once this diagnostic mode is enabled FileBack PC will then begin recording its actions in the system registry so this information can be reported to and analyzed by Maximum Output Software.

Two levels of diagnostics are available: Level 1, and Level 2.  Level 1 records a summary of actions performed by FileBack PC and keeps a short list of these summary actions.  Level 2 records individual steps performed by FileBack PC and keeps a longer list.

To enable Level 1 diagnostic mode:

  1. Close FileBack PC if it is currently running.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your FileBack PC program folder (usually C:\Program Files\FileBack PC).
  3. Right-click in the white space of the file listing and select New / Text Document.   Rename this file to FileBack.dpr.
  4. Start FileBack PC.

To enable Level 2 diagnostic mode:

  1. Close FileBack PC if it is currently running.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your FileBack PC program folder (usually C:\Program Files\FileBack PC).
  3. Right-click in the white space of the file listing and select New / Text Document.   Rename this file to FileBack.dpr2.
  4. Start FileBack PC.

Once diagnostic mode has been enabled, perform normal operations with FileBack PC until the abnormal behavior occurs.  At this point:

  1. Click Start / Run, type REGEDIT, and click OK.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Maximum Output Software\FileBack PC\4.0\LastAppStatus.
  3. Click File / Export, give this file a name, such as FileBack LastAppStatus.reg and click Save to save the file.

If FileBack PC can be loaded, open it and use the Technical Support Request Wizard to send the file created above:

  1. Open FileBack PC.
  2. Under the Help menu, select FileBack PC Support.
  3. Click Next four times.  Specify and verify and email address.  Click Next again.
  4. Click the Files & Screenshots tab.
  5. Click the Add File button, navigate to and select the file exported from the registry above.
  6. Click Send to submit the file.

If FileBack PC cannot be loaded, zip and send the registry file created above to support@maxoutput.com.
